Tokyo Marui has confirmed that the G19 Gen5 MOS gas blowback pistol is scheduled for release on 29 January. For those who have been patiently waiting to retire their older airsoft pistols, this version brings the compact frame into the fifth generation. It appears the wait is nearly over for enthusiasts looking to update their kit with the current iteration from the Japanese manufacturer, provided they haven't already spent their hobby budget for the month.

The "MOS" in the name stands for Modular Optic System, which means you can mount a micro-pro sight without needing a steady hand and a drill. The slide has been altered to include front serrations and chamfering, while the grip has finally lost its finger grooves. If your fingers never quite lined up with the previous moulds, your hands might finally feel at home on this flatter surface, which accommodates a wider variety of hand sizes.

On the inside, the mechanics have been redesigned to account for the added weight of an optic. A new blowback engine provides a 20% increase in cylinder capacity, resulting in a more distinct kick compared to earlier models. To manage this extra movement, the slide is constructed from carbon-reinforced resin. It is a practical choice for durability, ensuring the pistol handles the increased pressure without much fuss.

Rounding out the package is an ambidextrous slide stop and a flared magwell, which should make reloading less of a fumble during a skirmish. The box includes two sizes of backstraps for a more tailored fit and a 22-round die-cast magazine designed to behave itself in colder weather. There is even a trigger-based cocking indicator, allowing you to check if the pistol is ready to go by looking at the trigger position rather than relying on guesswork.
