It has been a long wait, but an actual made for the big screen live action movie of beloved video game “Metal Gear Solid “will soon start production. The news is that “Star Wars” actor Oscar Isaac, who acted the role of Poe Dameron in the movie, will be taking on the role of Solid Snake.

According to Deadline, the movie is being developed at the Sony Pictures with Jordan Vogt-Roberts as director. It is logical that the movie is handled by Sony Studios as it started its life as a hit video game for the Sony Playstation in 1998. The video game franchise still going strong with the last title released being “Metal Gear Survive” in 2018.

The news of the movie is not new since its creator Hideo Kojima announced in 2006 that it was in development and he wanted Hugh Jackman to be Solid Snake. 2011 was its targeted release year but nothing much come out with plans put on indefinite hold in 2010. By 2012, the Arad brothers agreed to produce the movie with Columbia Pictures. Sony Pictures, being the parent company of Columbia, will handle the distribution, and got on board Jordan Vogt-Roberts to direct the movie in 2014. By 2015, they announced that Jay Basu will be writing the screenplay.

Oscar Isaac expressed interest playing Solid Snake for the movie in 2019 in this video from IGN when they were promoting the Netflix movie “Triple Frontier”:

As to when the actual production will take place, there are no definite schedules yet given the Covid-19 pandemic and that Isaac already has his plate full with production for HBO and Disney+. He will be in the upcoming “Dune,” “Big Gold Brick” and “The Card Counter” which are set to premiere in next year.
