If you are looking for protective eyewear to use in airsoft and other shooting activities, probably you want to consult an authoritative list to check out to help you decide in your purchase. For those who prefer tested products, going over the U.S. Army’s Authorized Protective Eyewear List (APEL) is the wisest thing to do.
According to the U.S. Army’s PESO, the APEL is part of the Qualified Products List (QPL) that meet the requirements:
Qualified Products List (QPL) is a list of manufacturers who have had their products examined and tested and who have satisfied all applicable qualification requirements for that product. The QPL for eyewear protection is the Authorized Protective Eyewear List (APEL®). The following eyewear meet Army standards for ballistic protection.
It’s very much a good list and includes some of the bought eyepros by airsofters from famous brands such as ESS, Wiley X, Oakley, Smith Optics, and Revision Military. Recently, two more eye protection products from Revision were added to the list: the ShadowStrike, and the SnowHawk.
The ShadowStrike has a sharp geometric design, which basically is departure from the sleeker and more aerodynamic looking protective eyewear. It is still a wraparound design and is very much comfortable to wear. The SnowHawk, as its name implies, is made for harsh cold environments, and it is an integrated ballistic goggle and balaclava system. Both have the Ocumax Anti-Fog Coating which was tested under EN 166 standards and proven to last longer than competing anti-fog solutions by a factor of 10-20 times. Revision claims it is chemical-resistant and prevents scratches, streaks and smears.
Both ShadowStrike and SnowHawk are already available at gear retailers. They’re at the higher end of the price range, but one cannot put a price on eye protection as it is actually the most important gear I any airsofter’s bag. It is one where we always say not to hesitate in spending more money on.
