As we head towards September, we are wondering what will be the offering of GoPro in the Action Camera market. September is usually the month in which the leading action camera company announces new products and in a highly competitive market with products from the big electronics giants to cheaper and almost as capable action cameras from China, GoPro will have to work harder to ensure its position as the king of action cameras.
Photo Rumors have released photos (though unconfirmed) of the upcoming GoPro Hero 8 action camera and if the rumours are true, then it seems that GoPro will be releasing more accessories or modules apart from the usual mounting solutions. Since 4K action cameras at 60fps are coming into the market, the GoPro Hero 8 is said to be capable of 4K at 120fps, which gives more options for slow-mo editing at 4K, or if you stick to 1080p FHD, then it will have a maximum of 480fps.
With the DJI OSMO doing it almost “totally” right to give the company something to really worry about on its first try, they will have to up the ante. If the photos from Photo Rumors (the photos were then removed due to a cease and desist order letter sent by GoPros’ lawyers) are true, then you might want to save up for the Hero 8 just for the accessories designed to improve taking video even more convenient.

The accessories that can be expected is a housing that has an external microphone, an LCD screen that can be mounted on a cold shoe mount for vlogging or selfies, and an LED light for taking videos for low light conditions or as fill light. As for the insides of the rumoured action camera, it will be using the in-house GP2 chipset for image processing as well as improved lens for better images.
Another image from Photo Rumors is the GoPro Max 360 Camera which basically can be a reincarnation of the GoPro Fusion, the companies 360 camera offering. Whilst the Fusion is a good 360 camera with good quality images, many complain that editing footages from the camera takes a lot of resources from their computers. Another China-based company, Insta360, is eating fast into the 360 camera market with more affordable offerings such as the One X, which is the go to 360 action camera by many hobbyists. More photos can be found at The Verge.
If you like what you see, then you might want those rumours to be true.
