Technically, the SIG Sauer MCX AEG is not the first SIG Sauer AEG that is an official SIG Sauer airsoft gun. Cybergun which previously had the license to produce airsoft guns based on SIG Sauer designs released the MCX AEG (OEM VFC).  But the MCX Virtus AEG will be the first to be directly released by the firearms company under its SIG AIR ProForce Airsoft Line following the release of the M17 Gas Blowback pistol.

According to some retailers, it is going to be released by the end of 2019 in the U.S.A. (according to Evike.com) and November in Japan (according to Mokei Paddock). But according to Airsoft Station, it is expected it to arrive by the end of October. As for the OEM, it is VFC known for its faithful attention to the external details of licensed airsoft guns.

Laylax will be distributing the SIG MCX Virtus AEG in Japan and it was on display at the 6th Tohatsu (“Explosion”) Festival held last weekend at the Ikebukuro Sunshine City. In a report by Hyperdouraku, the the upper receiver is quite realistic given the attention to detail VFC has given to this AEG.

Internally, it has the Avalon Version 2 Gearbox with embedded MOSFET or what VFC calls ECS. What airsoft players will welcome is that the package comes with the M120 and M110 springs so they can be used for outdoor and indoor use as the AEG features a quick spring change system. The inner barrel is 292mm and is of course inside CNC-machined M-LOK handguard. To power the gearbox, it has high torque neodymium magnet motors.

Externally it has full 20mm top rail, 3-position PDW-style adjustable stock, polymer grip, and of course authentic SIG Sauer markings.

Pricing for the U.S. market is actually attractive given that it has premium Avalon internals and faithful replication of its externals by VFC.  It might make it before Christmas, so if you are not saving up for the expensive Tokyo Marui MK46 Mod0 NGRS as your gift to yourself, you might find it not-so-hard on your wallet at US$399.95 which most mid-range airsoft guns are priced.

U.S. airsoft retailers are already taking pre-orders for SIG AIR ProForce MCX Virtus AEG, so if you want to be one of the first owners, better place your orders and be at the front of the queue.
