SOLGW MK1 Limited Edition Frog Skin Camo Rifles

Sons of Liberty Gun Works (SOLGW) has unveiled a distinctive, limited-production run of its MK1 rifles, sporting a historically significant Frog Skin camouflage finish. This special edition is a thoughtful nod to the U.S. Marine Corps' 250th birthday, paying tribute to the Corps' enduring legacy. The specific camouflage pattern harks back to the WWII-era Frog Skin worn by Marines during the grueling Pacific Campaign, offering collectors and enthusiasts a tangible connection to military history.

This commemorative series is a detailed recreation of the original patterns and will be offered in both Jungle and Beach variants. For those keen on buying a piece of this martial nostalgia, the 'Frog Skin' MK1 rifles are expected to be delivered to authorised dealers and fulfilled for online orders by the first week of December. A perfect, if slightly unconventional, stocking filler for the military arms aficionado, perhaps.

Central to this special release lies the SOLGW MK1 rifle, a platform described by the company as their "passion project to make the ultimate fighting" rifle. It begins with a billet upper, lower, and rail receiver set, ensuring exceptional rigidity and precision from the outset. This is a rifle built with the serious user in mind, not one for simply looking pretty at the range—though the camouflage certainly helps with the latter.

The MK1-specific rail system is packed with features that highlight the considered design. It includes a continuous M1913 Picatinny rail on the top for optics and accessories, whilst offering minimal rail deflection for a stable shooting platform. Practicality is enhanced by integrated cable routing and seven-sided MLOK slots. Furthermore, the inclusion of laser texturing offers a sure grip. The extended barrel nut, fashioned from titanium and treated with a space-age coating, is designed to aid with heat management—a necessary consideration for any rifle intended for prolonged or rapid use.

The MK1 features an entirely new Medium Contour profile barrel. SOLGW offers a choice between an 11.5" (Carbine) or a 14.5" (Midlength) "Recce" P3 barrel. Both feature 3 Groove Polygonal rifling which is championed for superior ammunition forgiveness and extended barrel life—meaning your barrel should last longer than the average politician's promise. They have conservative port sizing, a 5/8x24 muzzle thread for devices, and a .750" gas journal. The barrels are Chrome-lined 41v50 material and promise sub-MOA performance with match ammunition, confirming this rifle’s capability for serious accuracy.

The billet upper receiver boasts a suite of enhancements, including an integral trigger guard, enlarged magazine release fencing and magazine well for easier manipulation. The altered forward assist placement provides added clearance for the charging handle, and the rapidly serviceable ejection port door access is a welcome feature. The upper features a continuous Picatinny top rail, dual stainless steel anti-rotation dowels, and the Broadsword style machined tabs and recesses for the MK1 DriveLock rail lockup. The charging handle is SOLGW's Liberty Charging Handle with small latches.

The lower receiver is equally well-appointed, featuring the Liberty 2-stage trigger (a two-stage system with a 4.5 lbs total pull weight) and an MK1 maritime bolt release. The inclusion of the enhanced A5 Length Buffer System—specifically an A5H2 Buffer in an A5 Receiver Extension (9 Position) with a SOLGW Stainless Steel Action Spring—provides superior recoil management. An ambidextrous Badger selector switch rounds out the controls.

The 'Frog Skin' MK1 rifles are finished in the aforementioned camouflage Cerakote pattern. Depending on configuration, the rifles come standard with either a B5 grip and SBA5 brace (for the pistol configuration) or a Magpul MOE-TR stock (for the SBR variant). Each rifle ships with a 30rd Gen3 PMAG (or a compliant magazine for relevant locations), and perhaps most reassuringly, each one is individually built and test fired. They are backed by a Lifetime Warranty and a Critical Use Replacement policy, offering peace of mind that few other manufacturers match—a robust warranty, you might say, is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

“A big part of our company is comprised of former Marines, Marine Reservists, or people who’ve worked directly alongside them. In celebration of the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corp, our Devil Dogs wanted to do a fun project and we couldn’t be more thrilled with how our Cerakote shop did on this project.” said Nate Horvath, CEO and former Marine. “These limited-edition rifles are available for pre-order on our website or via your favorite SOLGW dealer. We will be shipping these by the first week of December, or sooner.”

In a nutshell, the Sons of Liberty Gun Works 'Frog Skin' MK1 is a commemorative piece that manages to blend historical reverence with thoroughly modern, high-specification engineering. It’s a rifle that offers a unique aesthetic while keeping a commitment to performance, making it a compelling offering for enthusiasts who appreciate both history and a quality fighting carbine.
