Finally, my dream has come true. I have been wanting to see an Saiga-12 shotgun in airsoft form. During yesterday’s Tokyo Marui’s Marufes Online Part 5, Deka and Irodori Mayoi announced a new category --- the Gas Blowback Shotgun category with the introduction of the Tokyo Marui Saiga-12K Gas Blowback Shotgun.

The Saiga-12 Shotgun was designed by the father of the AK rifle himself, Mikhail Kalashnikov and it is profile will immediately show the influence of the Kalashnikov rifle in its design. It is a magazine-fed, a rotating bolt, and gas-operated gun just like the AK. The Saiga-12K has an AK-style pistol grip and folding stock and indeed Tokyo Marui has followed faithfully the dimensions of the real Saiga-12, then it has a length of 430mm.

The major letdown in Tokyo Marui’s airsoft Saiga-12 is that it won’t be using BB shotgun shells that are fed via a magazine, but instead the BBs are directly fed from the box magazine which is where the gas tank is also located. Still, we could live with this, since having shell ejecting airsoft shotgun can be a nicety but probably can also be a cost issue for airsoft players. At the rear of the gas tank, there is a temperature sticker that serves as a guide for the temperature of the gas tank. To maximize the performance of Saiga-12K and enjoy it, it is recommended to use it when the temperature of the gas tank is 25 degrees or higher.

The Tokyo Marui Saiga-12 Gas Blowback Shotgun is a tri-shot only airsoft gas shotgun, meaning only 3 BBs are expelled whenever it is fired unlike the Tokyo Marui M870 gas shotgun series where you have an option of 3 or 6 BBs to fire simultaneously.
For airsoft 3-gun competitors, the Saiga-12K can be used in the open category if we base it on the 3-gun category.

An optional AK74 Side Lock Mount Rail will be sold as an accessory so you can mount optics on the Saiga-12K gas shotgun.

The next NGRS that is announced this year after the Tokyo Marui MP5A5 NGRS is the White Storm Colour Variation NGRS. It is basically the same as the Tokyo Marui AK Storm NGRS if Tokyo Marui intend to have the Colour Variation series expanded, then they better look into sporting rifles for their gas blowback and NGRS rifles.
