The Ultimate Race Gun? Meet The New CZ TS 3 ORANGE Optic-Ready Race Pistol

CZ TS 3 ORANGE

Česká zbrojovka, more commonly referred to by those of us who struggle with Slavic consonants as CZ, unveiled the TS 3 Orange at the recently concluded IWA Outdoor Classics 2026. Purpose-built for the demanding arenas of IPSC Optics and USPSA Limited Optics, this pistol addresses the specific requirements of shooters who prefer their sight pictures electronic and their split times microscopic. This is a shift from the traditional iron-sight heritage towards a platform where glass and silicon are no longer afterthoughts but the primary focus of the design.

Whilst its predecessor, the TS 2 Orange, was a perfectly respectable companion on the range, the TS 3 Orange introduces a platform fundamentally re-engineered for the red dot era. The focus here is on rapid handling and a level of mechanical consistency that aims to remove the hardware from the accuracy equation entirely. In dynamic shooting, where the margin for error is thinner than a competition jersey, CZ has opted to refine the interface between the human hand and the steel machinery. It is a calculated response to the feedback provided by professional competitors who spend more time on the range than they do in their own living rooms.

One might notice the absence of the oft-maligned mounting plate. In a move that simplifies maintenance and increases structural integrity, the TS 3 Orange is "Optics-Ready" by way of direct slide mounting. By milling the interface directly into the steel, CZ accommodates the industry-standard footprints—RMR, RMSc, DeltaPoint Pro, and Holosun-K—without the added height or potential failure points of an adapter. This keeps the optic sitting as low as possible, keeping a natural centre of gravity and ensuring that the red dot tracks predictably during the violent cycle of the slide. It is a practical solution to a problem that has plagued "optics-ready" conversions for years.

The slide itself has undergone a significant transformation, featuring cocking serrations that are rather assertive without being unnecessarily abrasive. These, combined with strategic relief cutouts, have been tuned to balance the reciprocating mass against the recoil spring’s tension. More importantly, the slide travels on full-length frame rails and is hand-fitted by technicians whose patience presumably exceeds that of a saint. This meticulous fitting reduces play between the components to a negligible degree, which, in theory, should result in a cycling action that feels less like a series of explosions and more like a well-oiled sewing machine.

Intrinsic to the assembly is a cold hammer-forged bull barrel, a substantial piece of metal that lends the pistol a pleasing, muzzle-heavy bias. The improved muzzle crown is designed to protect the rifling and ensure a clean exit for the projectile, which is rather helpful when one is aiming at a distant popper under the pressure of a timer. Supporting this is a frame machined from a single solid block of steel. This monolithic approach allowed the designers to deepen the undercuts at the beavertail and trigger guard, enabling the shooter’s hand to sit higher up the grip. It is a basic law of physics: the closer your hand is to the bore axis, the less the pistol behaves like a seesaw when fired.

For ergonomics, this is addressed with the inclusion of G10 composite grips, which provide a texture reminiscent of an incredibly determined lizard. These are paired with a redesigned thumb rest that features a higher back plate profile, a subtle tweak intended to prevent one’s thumb from making unintended contact with the moving slide—an experience usually followed by a polite swear word and a malfunction. Furthermore, the manual safety has been angled at 25 degrees to match the thumb rest, allowing for a grip that feels consistent across both sides of the frame. These are the sorts of small, incremental gains that make a difference after five hundred rounds in a single afternoon.

The trigger mechanism is a single-action affair with a pull weight of approximately 600 grams. To put that in perspective, it requires about as much effort to break the shot as it does to decide whether to have a second biscuit with your tea or not. The travel is short, the reset is definitive, and the break is crisp. Complementing this is an adjustable magazine release button that can be tuned to the length of the shooter's thumb, facilitating reloads that are quick enough to satisfy even the most impatient range officer. Every control has been positioned to ensure that the shooter’s focus stays on the target rather than fumbling with the tool.

Currently chambered in the ubiquitous 9×19 mm, the TS 3 Orange arrives with a lifetime warranty on the barrel which is a highly confident gesture from a manufacturer that expects its products to be used extensively. It is worth noting that this pistol was not designed in a vacuum; it was forged through the iterative feedback of the CZ Shooting Team. When an individual like Eric Grauffel, who has managed to secure ten IPSC World Championships, provides input on where a button should be placed or how a slide should feel, it is generally considered wise to listen. The result is a firearm that reflects the preferences of those at the very top of the sport.

The CZ TS 3 Orange is a sober, highly technical response to the evolving landscape of competitive shooting. It avoids the flamboyant gimmicks often seen in the race gun category, opting instead for structural rigidity, refined ergonomics, and a direct-mount optics system that makes sense. It is a tool for the disciplined enthusiast who values the predictable over the flashy. Whether it will make you shoot like a world champion is perhaps a question of personal talent and practice, but it certainly removes any excuse you might have had about your equipment.
