Half-Life, the first person shooter game, and perhaps one of the most influential video games of all time, will soon have its latest title available to Windows PC gamers worldwide. But before PC gamers rejoice that this game is set to be released for the PC rather than the consoles, they better make sure they meet the requirements of the game as this is a Virtual Reality First Person Shooter, you know, you need VR headsets, accessories and that your PC also meets the hardware and system requirements.

Half-Life: Alyx is a prequel of Half-Life 2 and players will be playing Alyx Vance, who, together with her dad Eli, fight the Combine, an alien race that occupied Earth. The usual components of Half-Life such as exploration, puzzles, combat, and story are to return and there is the Gravity Gloves, which functions like the Gravity Gun from Half-Life 2 that the player can manipulate objects with.

Oh, did we mention that those pesky headcrabs are also back in the game?

Half-Life: Alyx is the Valve’s flagship VR game and while it is not the hoped for Half-Life 3, it is an ambitious video game project.  It is comprised of 80 developers and considered to be the biggest in Valve’s history and uses Valve’s Source 2 engine that includes better support for VR and collaborative level editing.

Since it’s a VR game, players will need a powerful PC that’s VR –ready as well as the Valve Index VR headset, controllers, and base stations. The game which is set to be retailed for US$60.00 will be free to owners of the Valve Index VR headset. It supports all PC-compatible VR headsets, such as the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest and Windows Mixed Reality.

Half-Life: Alyx will be released on March 23, 2020. It is a single player game campaign and there is no multiplayer mode.
