Last week, the airsoft community in Canada got the best news they have been waiting for, that provisions for a ban on airsoft guns are removed from Bill C-21. In a post by Airsoft In Canada on Facebook, they announced that the amendment introduced by the New Democratic Party (NDP), the centre-left party which is in opposition, was passed and airsoft is not covered by the Bill:

In case you haven’t already heard, the NDP amendment to remove airsoft from C21 passed. This gives airsoft safety from a controversial bill. ASIC wants to thank all the MPs that listened to our community, and those that voted for the amendment.

Most importantly, we need to thank each person that took action by writing, calling, or meeting with an MP. Those that decided complaining wasn’t enough, and action was the only way to get results.

Much remains to be done, but a collective sign of relief is deserved. Stay ready for more, and join us in celebrating a small win!

What happens next? The government will be working with the industry to discuss appropriate regulations. This is where the next battle to ensure that airsoft is not extremely regulated that it takes the fun out of the hobby.

Neverthless, the development is something to celebrate as airsoft is safe in Canada for now. House Gamers got this hour long vlog on airsoft and Bill C-21.
