Gungho Cowboy

You don't need a photographic memory to do it. All you need is an iPhone (or an iPod Touch, or an iPad) and you can grab the information on small arms wherever you are, at the touch or swipe of a finger. Modern Weapons Small Arms iPhone App made by Dava Consulting would literally arm you with the knowledge you need to about small arms. Wow your team mates about your extensive knowledge of modern weapons.

Dava Consulting does outsourced work for mobile applications, specialising in mobile apps and gaming consoles, and are based in Eastern Europe. For those who play Amazing Sudoku, they might be familiar with them, as they made that game for the iPhone.

Modern Weapons Small Arms (Encyclopedia of Guns) iPhone app is available at iTunes for US$0.99, which is a small price to pay when you want arms information instantly. It is constantly updated, and as of this writing, they have created a database of over 700 small weapons from around the world. They organised the information into 11 weapon categories: handguns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, machine guns, shotguns, submachine guns, grenade launchers, man-portable SAMs, hand grenades, bolt action rifles, semi-automatic rifles. These are easily searchable for quick information retrieval.

When you information on a certain weapon, do a quick search and tap on the information if the weapon is already in the database. The information presented shows photos, specifications, service history, originating country, and video.

What is nice here is that it allows you to create a "Favorites" list. This is a good feature as it helps you create a list of weapons that you fancy and plan to have in your collection. With the favorites list, you can search for gun stores where the weapon might be available.

If you fancy trying out weapons at gun range, the app also allows you to search for shooting ranges. From there you can select the nearest shooting range.

Whilst there are mobile apps for airsoft, there is none created that can give you a good database of airsoft guns. It would be fantastic if an app similar to this would be created for airsoft. It can be combined with the airbana airsoft maps, which already has a map of airsoft retail stores, skirmish sites, and events.

We're looking forward to that.
