Call of Duty: Ghosts Officially Revealed

Gungho Cowboy

Whilst the reveal of another Call of Duty title to be released late this year won't surprise most of us, the official reveal of Call of Duty: Ghosts is a start from scratch as this new title will have a new story and a new set of characters. We were hoping for a storyline around Ghost from COD Modern Warfare, but we believe that Ghost was permanently killed in COD MW2 and this new title will deal with a new set of Ghosts.

Infinity Ward will be the lead developer for  COD: Ghosts with a release date of 5  November, just like the other COD titles previously released, November is always the target month. The press release from Activision was full of "next gen" --- next generation consoles, next generation engine, next generation of characters. The publisher and developer are looking forward to the upcoming Playstation and XBox 360 models and we don't know if they will target tablet users which are fast growing segment of gamers.

The live action trailer as shown below shows not a single character of Ghosts, but it seems to be a full team of masked operators. As to how the story will unfold we cannot tell, but we appreciate in the trailer are the presentation of various masks and their meanings throughout human history and especially the history of warfare.

COD: Ghosts will be going against its closest competitor, Battlefield 4, which will be released earlier in October. COD MW3 and Battlefield 3 really slugged it out in 2011 as sales were close. But the COD Black Ops 2 totally outsold MOH Warfighter last year even with the full marketing throttle by EA and DICE.  We expect the competition to heat-up between the two revered FPS video game titles come later this year and it’s all good.

There is much to be expected from COD: Ghosts on how the new engine, new story, and new consoles will work out. Will there be a massive reorientation of game play style for the fans of the COD franchise? Will the story plot be contemporary just like the Modern Warfare series, or close to COD Blacks Ops 2 where there's a flashback deep into the past and an even more futuristic plot? Perhaps we'll know before the actual release date when there's some beta testing and more information revealed by the game publisher. We will know something how it will be on the XBox 360 World Wide Reveal on the 21st of May.

The video game wars are heating up again, just like in the past years. Activision will try to maintain the COD franchise to be one of the best-selling video games of all time and EA will be there to try and spoil the party with Battlefield 4.
