Coming Soon: "Raid On Abbottabad"

Gungho Cowboy

I am getting ahead of this idea, but I'm sure that some Hollywood studio is rounding up producers and writers to start researching to make a script about the killing of Osama Bin Laden in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Expect it to be loaded with the hottest action stars that may just include Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, and Matt Damon as part of SEAL Team 6, George Clooney as the CIA head, and perhaps Jamie Foxx as President Obama. It'll be full of explosions, computer wizardy, and of course that covert intelligence thriller scenes. I doubt if there'll be a scene with hot women, if the training for the raid was done in Afghanistan.

It might be called "Raid On Abbotabad" if we were to follow the tradition of "Raid On Entebbe" the movie.

But what we cannot tell when will the production start, but definitely the story is one for the movies. How about us airsoft players doing something about it?

"Black Hawk Down" already has its airsoft commemoration in the form of Operation Irene, where it is an annual event held by Best of USA Marketing, and one of the must attend airsoft event in the USA. This means that any enterprising airsoft events organiser can do a reenactment/themed event and it will be a good opportunity for role playing among interested airsoft players.

The teaser photo above shows the compound of Bin Laden in Abbotabad as reconstructed by the US Department of Defense, either find an abandoned area that can be redone to resemble it, or builtd some makeshift infrastructre.

To get more information how to reconstruct the area is to start playing the "Counterstrike" video game again as there's now a map called "de_abbottabbad" available for download. The maps give you a 3D view of the compound including obstacles. I haven't played this yet, since it's been ages since I last played the game, so I cannot tell if the rooms in the map are useable in the scenario. But the CS map is a good reference for organising the event.

As for the video of the raid, the famous and prolific Taiwanese animation company, NMAtv, was able to do a 3D animation the day after the raid. However, the Youtube upload was removed, so we might wait for some time before they release it again.

But hey! No one's stopping you from making an indie movie about the "Raid on Abbotabad". With all those video making tools available nowadays, just grab some airsoft players who can somewhat act, provide the costumes for the bad guys, write a quick script, and scout an area for the compound. Heck! You can even do CGI rendering of the compound if your computer is up to some heavy 3D rendering.

If someone can do an amateur or indie COD Modern Warfare short film, how about this one?
