Action cameras are getting to be an important part of the basic kit of an airsoft players nowadays. There are benefits of using helmet cameras in airsoft apart from taking in-game video footage. You can review your actions post-game and how to improve on your tactical skills; it helps in managing a game when accusations of cheating or not following the rules arise and footage of the incident can help a marshal decide; document happenings in and out of the airsoft field specially when transporting airsoft guns; and capture footage of parts of scenes we ignore but in review will reveal something helpful.

Thus, the release of such devices led to a boom of airsoft videos online and these help at the promotion of airsoft. In such small packages, the technology in these are improving each year and catering to different markets, especially extreme sports, that even big names such as Sony, JVC, and Panasonic have jumped into the action, offering their versions with lots of features.

The leader of them all, GoPro, seems to have cornered a big chunk of the action market. It doesn’t have the sleekest design, but its design allows it to be mountable at every conceivable position, making it a very versatile action camera. From Reality TV Shows, to movies, to sports events, GoPro is ubiquitous, already a very familiar equipment for coverage.

Recently, GoPro have released accessories that answer the airsoft and tactical communities requirements and for videomakers to easily combine GoPro Cameras to capture stills and video at the same time or to capture the action in 3D.

The first one will be most welcomed by airsoft players and those in working in tactical environments. The GoPro Blackout is a housing that keeps a low profile for the GoPro Camera with its Black Matte finishing and LCD concealment stickers to minimise, if not eliminate, light reflection from the LCD screen. Thus, rather than giving your position away, the GoPro Blackout Housing will keep you stealthy, able to record the action or scene hidden away, unnoticed by those you are observing.

The second one is the GoPro Dual Hero System which is an update of their GoPro 3D HERO System. This is not a dual-lens GoPro action camera, but it's a housing system that allows you to put together two GoPro HERO3+ Black Edition cameras to simultaneously capture video and photos. Or even better, you can combine video footage from both cameras to create a 3D version using GoPro's free 3D editing software.  Many airsoft players nowadays are using two action cameras for third or first person video capture, and such they can use the GoPro Dual Hero for 3D footage.

Dual cameras in a single housing can be controlled by using the control interface of one camera to control the other camera's settings, saving the user time configuring the settings of two cameras separately. The package also comes with two pairs of 3D anaglyph glasses for you to view the 3D output.
Both Blackout and Dual Hero are waterproof, the first one at 40 metres whilst the latter at 60 metres so you can take them for water action sports whether on or below the surface. You will need 3D glasses to properly view the sample video below.

There you have it, if your priority is more tactical, the Blackout Housing will be the product that you'll pick for your GoPro Camera. If you are more into having better scene capture, then the enhanced photo, video, and 3D capture capabilities that the Dual Hero System provides is what you'll do get. Better yet, get both so you can just take any of these camera housing units to fit the situation.
