Is This The Gun That Took Down Osama Bin Laden? (UPDATE)

Logan

And the information gets better. Miltary blogs have worked fulltime trying to find out which rifle was used by the SEAL Team 6 in taking down Osama Bin Laden. In our previous post, it was initially said that it was the Colt CM901 7.62mm version. But new information have cropped up that a much battled-tested assault rifle was used during the raid earlier this month.

The HK416, according to Military Times Gear Scout, was used by SEAL Team 6:

"I’ve just heard from a SOCOM vet with enough clout to have earned a Photoshopped place in the Situation Room photo behind Hillary’s empty seat. He tells me the stack of SEAL assaulters from Red team that went through Osama bin Laden’s bedroom door were running HK416s."

Soldier Systems also got the same information:

"However, UBL was gunned down using German engineering – the HK416 which was my gut feeling from the very beginning. This is confirmed to the point that I feel comfortable updating this story. Ultimately, as my readers have pointed out, it doesn’t matter what got him so long as he is dead."

We don't know if another rumor will come out saying that another stealth rifle was used during the raid, but this latest information is more credible given that the Colt CM901 is still being tested. What is known is that the FNH SCAR-H and the HK416 are already in service with the DEVGRU, and the HK416 would be the preferred assault rifle given the use 5.56mm caliber, and its durability over the M4 rifle.

Thus, no need for airsoft players to wait for an airsoft version of the CM901, the HK416 airsoft replicas are already in the market for over three years now. For those wanting to have the SEAL Team 6 impression, better get yourself an airsoft HK416 and find an AOR1 BDU, if that's the pattern they used during the raid, as only NSW personnel are authorized to wear this uniform.
