Make That Round Count With MagCount

Gungho Cowboy

Wouldn't it be really neat if you know how many rounds you have left in your magazine without pulling it out and checking it? There's already the Magpul EMAG which has a rather simple solution to it, but what about a magazine that shows you how many rounds you have left through an electronic display? If you answer that there's already one, the M41A Pulse Rifle, that is still a fictional weapon, though that's a cool rifle.

There's a company that is now introducing such technology without any modifications to the firearm. MagCount LLC announced two months ago their MagCount product which is a product that gives you realtime bullet counter at the base of the magazine with the counter giving you a warning that you have few rounds left by either vibration or sound.

The MagCount replaces the bottom plate of the magazine, be it a pistol, a shotgun magazine, or an assault rifle. No demo yet on how the replacement is done so we cannot talk much about it. Will be a hit in the firearms market? We cannot tell since it may look more of a nice to have, but not necessary. However, knowing that it's about time to change the magazine without being surprised that it's already empty should be a comforting thing. But rather than sound, we would prefer just the vibration since it may give opponent an idea that you are already out of bullets. Just remember the plinking noise of the M1 Garand rifles when the clips get ejected after all rounds are expended. It just makes the enemy fire at you at your most vulnerable moment.

Would it be nice to have in airsoft? Yes, we can say it would be as we've got a lot of geardos who would find it a cool gadget to have for their airsoft guns. The coolness factor matters a lot, so MagCount should also start thinking about this market. If there's a precedent, the M41A Alien Pulse Rifle conversion kit has a following and was always out of stock. It has a real bullet counter with large LED display that an operator can immediately see.

This means that it is applicable in airsoft. G&P, which makes the M41A conversion kit, can possibly make one since it has the experience. We would especially look forward to a MagCount version for the gas blowback airsoft guns as these have low capacity magazines. Knowing that you have about 3-5 rounds left would make you change magazines since most airsoft magazines do not fully empty their load. It's useless trying to fire off the remaining rounds since they won't get loaded after all, especially for AEGs.

Now that's something to really make that round count.
