Elysium, the upcoming movie by District 9 maker Neill Blomkamp starring Matt Damon, gets its second official trailer which actually gives us a better understanding of the story and shows what we have written about the movie last year. Strangely, the trailer gives us a reminder that its setting is happening somehow, somewhere on planet Earth right now.

Whilst set in 2159 where Earth has an even more high tech versions of the haves and have nots,  Matt Damon as Max de Costa is an ex-convict who needs to get to the Elysium space station to get cure for his disease as only rich people can afford to stay in Elysium where they are free of disease, crime, and in pristine environments whilst the rest have to stay on a very much polluted earth. The have nots have no access to the Space Station and attempts to go there have all been shot down by the Elysium management which is headed by Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) for the Armadyne Corporation. They can live to toil the earth and supervised by robots.

De Costa, working as another plant factory worker, gets a disease where he is only given 5 days to live. He is given hope as he gets equipped with an exoskeleton to give him a chance to penetrate Elysium to find the cure for his disease and finds himself as an important player in what will bring changes to the Elysium- Earth relationship. But Kruger, who is another exoskeleton-equipped human under the employ of the corporation gets unleashed by Secretary Delacourt to go after De Costa and frustrate his plans.

We have previously written about the Chemrail Guns in the movie, but there are more interesting equipment in the  movie. The AK-47 will be over 200 hundred years old in this movie, but still going strong. DeCosta actually is found in the movie firing a customised AK-47 which seems to be equipped with a laser sighting device that looks closely like a Glock upper frame melded tha is kitted with a laser and the Russian NIT-A optics. I just hope some third party airsoft parts maker gets to read this and makes one to put on airsoft AKs.

The Elysium plot, whilst set a over a hundred years into the future, is a grim reminder of the situation in many parts of the world, including the developed world. Even if some of you may not agree to such a plot, it still is a good formula for a Hollywood blockbuster --- a clear cut fight between good and evil, the haves and have nots, and of course loaded with all the special effects that can be expected in a sci-fi thriller.
