ASC: Viper Golia Knife Review

OptimusPrime

Airsoft Community Italy's Steel1 reviews the Viper Golia Knife made by Tecnocut. We took some nice excerpts so you'll have a good introduction to the full story... "When you choose a knife, the 'exotic' is often preferred and when you talk about overseas knives, the common user has his eyes wide open. But we're Italian and wanting to test a tactical knife we started the research and we found a viper...indeed...a 'Vipera' that, despite the name, carries proudly 'made in Italy' mark: it's the VIPER GOLIA.

An older brother of the Viper David (11cm. blade with a different shape), the Viper Golia is made by Tecnocut and is a moder full-tang knife with a good but not extreme 'tactical soul' you can use as a military knife, for outdoor & camping and for hunting.

So, don't be fooled by the English name, this 'Vipera' is completely italian!

The preview we have done is needed to understand in what way we have reached the Golia in an almost infinite knife world: wanting to show a tactical, but not extreme, knife to AirSoftCommunity.it readers that they could use for long Airsoft games (24h-48h...) and for outdoor & camping, I asked myself about the features it should have and this is the summary:

PRICE: over the 'cravings' and the 'passions', the budget is the first step when you decide to buy a new knife and I can't suggest you to buy a 450-500€ knife to do batoning, chopping etc...

DIMENSIONS: when you decide for a full-tang knife for outdoor use, I think you need to choose a blade not less than 12cm. and not less than 5mm thin.

(Usability): I put it in two parenthesis because I think it could be hard to objectify. Sometimes you find some items in your equipment you don't like to carry when you go out to the mountains and this becomes a problem when the item is a knife. You will not feel at ease carring a 'rambo knife' or a extremely long knife  (as what happened to me with a KA-BAR Black Tanto) even if you will be alone on a mountain or in a 48h airsoft game. Don't think this is a point with a low importance: you must have a good feeling with your knife so you will forget it until you will need it...and not to hide it in the rucksuck as I did with the Ka-Bar!

SHEATH: It's not indispensable but to have a good and modular sheath will let you save money by not buying an aftermarket one

STEEL: Most experts in knives will mark me as a "newbie" because I set this point at the end of the summary. But when you have not gotten big experience in steels and you want to buy a new (and good) knife, you will have to select some knifes you like and try to understand if the materials are good or not. To help you I can suggest the excellent forum of the ColtelleriaCollini where you will find a lot of experts that will help you!

...and, in the end, you have to like your new knife!"
