The Beretta BM59, a modernized version of the M1 Garand featuring a detachable magazine, bipod, and grenade launcher, was adopted by several countries in the late 1950s. Initially constructed from surplus M1 parts, it later transitioned to more modern production methods. After serving for decades, the BM59 was replaced by the Beretta AR70/90 in Italian service. In recent years, semi-automatic variants have been reintroduced to the civilian market, offering a more affordable option compared to other M1 Garand-based rifles due to the use of cast steel receivers instead of machined ones.
