"One of the first things that every player needs to know is how a gearbox works so you can better understand how to keep it running at it's best. One of the most important aspects of gearbox maintenance is shimming a gearbox.

Shimming a gearbox is the process of getting the gears to line up as perfectly as possible to reduce friction, increase contact of the surface area of the gear teeth (which will increase gun performance), prevents wobbling, avoids wearing up against other internal parts of your gearbox and any gear binding and will keep your gear running at their best for the longest period of time possible.

You will need a number of different sized shims to get the optimum gear height.

Another important aspect of shimming your gearbox is the use of gear grease to reduce more friction and heat. But be careful because too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. We have done a number of repairs on guns that have too much gear grease so make sure that you only use a little bit."
