Good Tactical Gloves & Thunder B Grenade

OptimusPrime

Two-part story posted at the Pyramyd Airsoft Blog which explain why you need to have good tactical gloves. The Tominator has a Hakkotsu Thunder B Sound Grenade explode in his hand while he was at Operation Route 66. He thought an unexploded Thunder B should not go to waste... so one thing led to another and there he was left with an exploded shell in his hand which of course was protected by the glove he wore. We're getting ahead in this so it's better to read his story at his blog, click on the links below:

The Importance of Good Tactical Gloves - Part I

I generally wear some form of tactical gloves when I play Airsoft and given my track record, it remains very wise for me to do so.  Case in point:

If you haven't done so already, watch the last 2 minutes of this video, where I fall and dislocate my shoulder.  I used my hands to break my fall.  Since I was running fairly quickly, when I hit the ground, I skidded a bit on my hands.  Had I not been wearing my 5.11 Tactical Taclite 2 Gloves, I'd have not only wrecked my shoulder, but my hands would have been pretty torn up as well.  But instead, I had invested in some high quality tactical gloves, which did their job very well.

Ever Had a Thunder B Sound Grenade Go Off in Your Hand? (I have) Importance of Good Gloves - Part II

"... Well, since I did not properly prep the grenade the way I normally do, the stupid thing did not go off after the normal time of 4-5 seconds.  DARNIT!!!  I thought to myself.  Now I either need to throw another one or call myself out and got retrieve my core (for those that don't know, only the black canister that blasts open is the disposable part.  There is a metal core inside, along with the cap which is reusable and you definitely want to hang on to).

At this point, 30-60 seconds had past and I just decided to call myself out and the go & get that one since I only had one left and didn't want to waste it.  So I called myself out, put the red rag on my head, walked around the corner, saw my grenade sitting on the dirt, near the bad guys (who would have been well within the kill radius had it went off).  As I picked up the Thunder B, thinking that it was a dud, the stupid thing goes BOOM!...in my hand...."
