A hands-on review of the Phantom Gear "Modern" Chicom chest rig and their new magnetic dump pouch by Airsoft Parts Bin. He field-tested this lightweight and minimalist gear setup during a warm day at an airsoft event in California. Designed as an update to a classic design, the setup includes standard MOLLE real estate on the sides, arriving packaged with a canteen pouch, a radio pouch, and a triple magazine pouch for a accessible entry price.
While the rig is designed for AK-47 magazines, Airsoft Parts Bin used smooth steel M4 magazines, which occasionally decided to slide too deep into the pouches, prompting a game of finger-pincers to fish them out. He also noted that the large radio pouch required some MacGyver-style modification to properly secure his equipment, and he wished there was a better high-up spot to clip his speaker microphone.
The magnetic dump pouch attaches via hook-and-loop and automatically snaps shut to keep things sleek, though finding the opening crease while wearing gloves proved to be its own mini-game. Despite these minor quirks, he points out that the padded straps remained comfortable over a long day of playing. He recommends the package as a solid, budget-friendly option for beginners or anyone looking for a simple, breathable loadout in warm weather.
