"The Raid 2: Berandal" Gets Praises At Sundance

Logan

Perhaps the most anticipated action movie sequel this year, the Indonesian film "The Raid 2: Berandal", gets previewed at the Sundance Film Festival. Metro reports that critics went crazy over the longer and much more action and gore sequel. We have been waiting for the release of this move which is expected to be later in this quarter, but the latest trailer release, just made us want it to be released now.

Sorry dear airsoft readers that there's not much tacticoolness of loadouts or firearms galore in the trailer. But I'm sure you'll  pretty much forgive us as what you'll see will make you want more:

The critics say the action makes some Hollywood big budget action film full of CGI-effects pale in comparison. Even the car chase scene stand on its own against some famous care chases. There are lots of superlatives in the reports that we've been reading online. The only criticism that can be made is that it's too long and James Rocchi blogs at Indiewire:

“The Raid” was 110 minutes of Oh-my-God action; “The Raid 2” has at least 110 minutes of Oh-my-God action … and also has around 30 minutes of bloat and blubber weighing down what could have been a sleeker sequel.

With a bigger budget and even wider marketing support from Sony Pictures, did Director Gareth Evans up the ante with "Berandal"? The consensus among critics is that he pulled off it. The first movie "The Raid: Redemption" was a tightly woven story in a single location that a brought very a fresh take in action movies, "Berandal" takes it to another level that will leave audiences still cringing from all those skulls cracked, bones broken, bodies stabbed, hammered, shot, smashed, punctured, knocked senseless… and all the words that can only one thing: extreme violence.

I am hating myself for reading all these reports on "Berandal" from the Sundance Film Festival since many will contain spoilers. I want to be surprised when the movie comes to the big screen near me this year. If that trailer above won't impress you, I don't know what else will.

"The Raid 2: Berandal" is slated for release in 28 March 2014.
