That's Not A Grenade. That's The Bublcam 360º Camera!

Logan

Indeed it looks like one of those futuristic grenades seen in movie but the Bublcam aims to capture what other cameras do, but do it better. Whereas before you need to make an unsteady turning around to do a 360-degree capture of an area, or taking a panoramic shot with existing camera, Bublcam does that easily and quickly since it is already a 360-degree camera in itself.

Bublcam is a Kickstarter project that quicky achieved its  funding goal of CAD$100,000 with 35 days still left to go, making it a highly anticipated project. Taking a tetrahedron shape, It is comprised of what seems to be four lenses pointing at different directions in one camera body, avoiding blind spots for a complete 360-degree view. It has many possibilities for usage, and indeed it makes photo or video making a whole new experience.

A little bit of a letdown is that cannot capture at 1080p at a higher frame rate when almost every camera in the market takes video at that resolution at 25, 30, and 60 frames per second. It can capture at 1080p at 15fps and 720p at 30fps. Well, I'm not really a video guy so there might be some reasoning for such capture limitations, especially taking in videos at 360 degrees at the same time.

Airsoft players might feel apprehensive at mounting this on their helmets, thinking that they might look like the camouflaged cousins of the teletubbies. But just imagine of being able to capture airsoft action videos at different angles with just a single camera, it saves mounting at least two action cameras for a first and third person view and you can select  clips from multiple views when editing the videos.

There are lots of uses for the Bublcam and can replace that webcam when you talk to friends and relatives from your computer, you can just move around the view to see who is in the room rather than having their names mentioned for them to put their faces in front of the camera. This is also good for architectural and interior design shots, especially for those who are into real estate.

The Bublcam is expected to be delivered to its backers in May 2014. If you want to be one of the first owners, you can still check the different levels of backing the project and find out which are still open. The funding phase will end on the 14th of December.
