Toys 4 Tots 2012: New York After Action Report
Moondog
20 Dec 2012
I rolled in with Bow Hunter and Red Rum to Modern Air Strike on Saturday evening, December 8. The afternoon session was just winding down and we handed out Evike red rags and pens to the players after their last CQB round. Players who brought in a toy donation were given 3 bags of Matrix BB's from Evike.com, in addition to discounted entry from MAS.
I set up the 3-gun tournament in the side room and invited the players from the exiting 2-5pm session and the new players arriving for the 5-9pm session. Ricochet Tactical donated a bolt-action sniper rifle for use in tournament and which the 1st place shooter got to keep as a prize at the end of the night. Unfortunately one of the players testing out the rifle, jammed the bolt. We eventually got it unjammed after the competition, but I did not want to delay the start so I turned it into a 2-gun competition.
At the first station, the shooter had to drop prone with his rifle and take down 3 steel targets which were 35ft downrange. He would then turn around and run to the second rifle station and fire from a standing position at 3 targets from 30ft away. Dropping his rifle on the table, the shooter would transition to a pistol and sprint forward 10ft to the final position with 3 target on a table 20ft away.
Many of the younger shooters hadn't fired a GBB pistol before and struggled readying the guns or changing mags. It was shocking to me how many of the younger players just didn't bother to aiming and just rapid fired attempting to walk their shots to the target. Understandably, the fact that they were minors forced them to wear PB masks so they could not use their iron sights. MAS should consider offering basic airsoft fire-arms clinics though NYC Airsoft may have to offer this as the field staff may not be up to speed on these skills.

After the competition the NYC Airsoft members and walk-on players played CQB sessions until 9:30 when the 9am players from Ricochet Tactical joined the field. I ran a 20 minute long Moondomination scenario with the green team pulling an upset on the red team. The Reds had better team coordination and coverage of the timer box but failed to confirm if they had indeed pressed the timer. In the end Red's time was around 4 minutes whilst Green had over 9 minutes on their clock.
When we left that night, we'd filled an entire large box full of toys and were starting to fill up the next one. Thanks again to Shaq at Ricochet, Don at MAS and his staff. And thanks to Evike.com for supplying all the players who came out on Saturday with swag and goodies.
