Here’s a look back at two decades of plastic-pellet warfare as Popular Airsoft joined in the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of Airsoft Plantation (AP). Over 400 enthusiastic airsofters descended upon the woodland site, fully decked out in camouflage, tactical vests, and armed with enough airsoft gear to liberate a small island nation. Head organiser John and his marshals kicked off the festivities by marvelling at the massive turnout, assuring the sea of players that despite the impending chaos, there was indeed a master plan in motion.

Before unleashing hundreds of camo-clad adults into the brush, John took a quick nostalgic trip down memory lane to honour AP’s impressive legacy. He reminded veteran skirmishers of the site's roots, spanning back nearly thirty years to vintage grounds in Hockley Woods, Southend, and the legendary Lakeside warehouse. Despite modern administrative headaches like parking squabbles and lost land boundaries, the spirit of the venue remained completely unbothered, carried by a loyal community that has supported the site over the years.

Managing a giant tactical skirmish with over 400 players requires clear rules, which John delivered with a healthy dose of practical airsoft wisdom. With over 200 players per side, sportsmanship was paramount; John gently reminded the crowd that if anyone felt a suspicious sting, they should call their hits immediately—mostly because there was a literal wall of plastic BBs flying in their direction. The morning agenda featured dynamic push-and-pull objectives along with a throwback  domination match to get everyone warmed up.

The action officially commenced as players scattered into the woodland to position high-value target boxes across the terrain. The quiet woods were swiftly transformed into a flurry of shouting, heavy boots kicking up dust, and calls of "passing through" to prevent friendly fire echoing through the trees. Flanking manoeuvres were attempted, cover was desperately sought behind every log, and players dodged incoming fire as the front lines surged back and forth across the forest floor.

By midday, the battle escalated around critical control points across the venue, including the Mortar Pit, the Firebreak, and the Village. To prevent the massive firefights from turning into an uncontrollable wall of plastic, marshals strictly enforced single-shot semi-automatic fire for regular riflemen. Dedicated support gunners were given brief three-second bursts to suppress enemy positions, keeping the gameplay intense yet manageable as both teams fought to control the majority of the three objectives.

Once the tactical combat wrapped up and players retreated to the safe zone thoroughly spent, everyone gathered for the highlight of the day: the massive 20th-anniversary raffle featuring prizes worth £6,000. John took centre stage with his assistant Adam, who willingly stepped into the role of "glamourous prize model" to show off the haul. The crowd cheered as an endless parade of kit was unveiled, including speed loaders, pyrotechnic packs, dump pouches, snoods, and tactical apparel from generous industry sponsors.

What followed was a glorious exhibition of British raffle banter, complete with squinting at faded ticket numbers and debate over mystery ticket colours. John openly admitted to his own questionable colour vision when struggling to identify a "brownie-goldie" ticket, while Adam and everybody else mercilessly ran strict 10-second countdowns for winners to choose their prizes. Exhausted, covered in mud, and clutching their new tactical loot, the 450 attendees headed home, leaving Airsoft Plantation to celebrate twenty glorious years of woodland skirmishing with many more battles still to come.
