Warfighter Airsoft: Helping Veterans With PTSD

Logan

We have been writing about airsoft being therapeutic for veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), though even there's not scientific or medical basis for it, many veterans attest that it works and helps them cope with PTSD. Whether or not it's medically proven, airsoft gets support for veterans as it's safe than other ways, such as actual hunting or shooting with real steel weapons at firing ranges which recently had a tragic incident, taking the life of the famous sniper Chris Kyle, as he tried helping a veteran with PTSD by bringing him to a real steel firing range.

We have also heard about Warfighter Airsoft, an organization dedicated to veterans coping with PTSD. Initially hit with a controversial issue with one of their members said to have committed "Stolen Valor" that made some airsofters hesitant to support their activities, it nevertheless has a worthy objective. Now as a non-profit organization (not tax-exempt for now), Warfighter Airsoft welcomes veterans regardless of service branch, and they even took in an airsoft player to be in their group due to his dedication to support the organization. Chris, explains more of the organization below:

Warfighter Airsoft looks to be an organization that US-based airsoft players can support as they can refer any veteran they know that they there is an airsoft organization dedicated to helping them cope with airsoft as they gradually return to civilian life. It's also one way for the airsoft community to show their appreciation to their service by giving gear, equipment, and access for Warfighter Airsoft, and similar organizations (if there are).

One thing that we would recommend to Warfighter Airsoft is to open membership to airsoft players who are committed to the goals of the organization as it is also the best way for the veterans to recognize the role that actual airsoft players can play in their group. The airsoft players also provide the bridge between the veterans and the airsoft community and help prevent misunderstanding that sometimes happen between both communities. They can create a "support group" comprised of airsoft players who have not served in the military and this gives them the opportunity to do something for the veterans apart from just donating money and equipment.

And speaking of "Stolen Valor", that is also something for Warfighter Airsoft to watch out for as this will undermine the integrity of the group, and with it, the lack of support that will arise if it happens again. They can coordinate with those who research with Stolen Valor and put explicit rules that they won't tolerate poseurs or actual veterans that claim more what they have in their military records. As they say, it just takes one major mistake to throw away a lifetime of hard work.

For airsoft players and veterans who want to learn more about Warfighter Airsoft, they can visit their Facebook Page to check their wallposts and videos to find out if they can give their support or join them. The best way really is to contact them and arrange how to join them in one of their activities to learn more so better find their contact information on Facebook.
