The Weapon For The Total War On Bugs

Gungho Cowboy

And it won't cost you much loading up on ammo. Finally, we have an assault weapon to assault… bugs. This would be a handy weapon at home, or at a camp when pesky flies would just ruin your appetite or annoy you with the buzzing sound whilst watching TV. "Bug-A-Salt" is a new invention by artist Lorenzo Maggiore, and gauging the video, seems to get the job done in a nice, non-messy way. For those who are into guns like us airsoft players, then this would be a handy weapon that has an actual everyday purpose that real firearms or airsoft funs.

As its name implies, "Bug-A-Salt" is an insect-killing gun that uses salt as ammo. Firing the salt in a shotgun way, a single blast of salt done in the recommended shooting distance can kill a fly and it only takes a pinch of salt. A reload can give you 50-shots which should do the trick to keep the flies at bay. I'd rather have this at home rather than a bug spray when needed for indoors. It's non-toxic, non-smelly and doesn't require batteries. It does the job in a neater way, than say a Fly swat which you may damage something in the house if your whack goes the wrong way. "Bug-A-Salt" also leaves the dead fly/bug intact which makes it easier to clean up after doing battle with it.

Apart from those benefits, you get to practice your shotgun shooting skills.

The gun design looks well pretty thought out with all the load indicators and safety features in place. The designer also cautions that it's not a totally safe thing and should be treated like a firearm, just like  how we treat our airsoft guns too. It will still hurt the eyes if shot at without protection, so it's something not to point at people in jest.

It might look like a novel item that may not have a market demand, but it looks like it has. The designer went to the crowdfunding site, Indiegogo to raise US$15,000 to start production of the gun. With still 49 days left to reach that amount, the project already has met its funding goal and has already reached US$59,137 which means people like the idea of a non-toxic, and even fun way of killing bugs.

The price of a "Bug-A-Salt" at the project page is US$30 for the early adopters and it may just increase in price once it begins hitting retail stores. So if you're interested in one, it's best to send you money his way this early. The limited edition version is already totally sold out.

I just hope the designer has some safeguards in place as he is outsourcing production to China to make the price lower. The design might just also fall in the hands of other manufacturers and the next thing you know, even cheaper versions will be flooding the markets elsewhere. Just like what happened to a U.S. airsoft company which brought back its airsoft manufacturing operations home.

Those flies buzzing around near the porch, their days are numbered.
