Airsoft CamMan Improving The ICS Airsoft CXP-TOMAHAWK

Airsoft CamMan does a fresh attempt to fix the ICS Tomahawk airsoft sniper rifle, a platform praised for its sturdy exterior look but traditionally let down by its overly complicated internal parts. He targets the notorious original hop unit—which historically caused consistency issues due to an excessive number of tiny, loose components—by installing a simplified version sent directly by the manufacturer. Along with the new hop unit, the process involves swapping out the cylinder head using a vise and a hammer, plus installing a new adjustment wheel and trying different hop-up buckings to get the BBs to feed correctly.

Despite the newly streamlined internal layout and a satisfyingly smooth bolt pull, the field test reveals that the rifle still behaves like a stubborn pet. Operating below the typical power limits, the rifle shoots relatively straight but suffers from a noticeable lack of range, occasionally drifting sideways. A consultation with a knowledgeable friend suggests the barrel might actually be too long for the setup, creating an unexpected tuning bottleneck with the massive piston.

The technical rescue mission ends in a temporary truce. While Airsoft CamMan admits to being under a strange spell that keeps him from selling or giving away the beautiful rifle, the lack of immediate performance means the Tomahawk is destined for a familiar fate.
