Jaeger Precision: Raptor SR2M SMG GBBR

Jaeger Precision gets his hands on the Raptor SR2M gas blowback submachine gun as it arrives as a quirky, Russian-inspired alternative to more common airsoft models. He notes that the replica comes quite literally swimming in oil, likely to protect its stamped steel parts during transit. Despite an instruction manual that turns out to be just a parts diagram and a slightly confusing shipping experience involving a color mix-up, the initial build quality seems decent, featuring a steel stock and top cover that give it some satisfying heft.

Performance-wise, the gun is a bit of a mixed bag with a personality only a collector could love. The trigger is described as having a long, mushy pull with no clear wall, making rapid semi-auto fire feel like a finger workout. On the bright side, the full-auto mode is impressively fast, and the 40-round magazine manages to cycle reliably once you remember the oddly manual step of resetting a latch every time you reload. It does not lock back on empty, but it makes up for it by being much more functional than previous products from the same brand.

The aesthetics are undeniably unique, resembling something out of a sci-fi film or a modded video game. While the grip ergonomics are slightly questionable and the safety lever is a bit loose, the inclusion of a 14mm counter-clockwise thread for suppressors adds some welcome practicality. It may not be the most comfortable tool in the shed, but for those bored of the standard MP7 or MP9, this "wacky" submachine gun offers a refreshing, if oily, change of pace for the airsoft field.
