CVU or 'sniper rifle shortened' is a modification of the SVD sniper rifle in the bullpup arrangement.

Bullpup - this is such a small arms arrangement, in which the trigger group is in front of the breech end of the barrel and, as a result, with this arrangement, the magazine is often located behind the handle.  

The main point of the bullpup arrangement is to keep the barrel length by reducing the length of the rifle itself.

Initially, the SVU was planned for the Airborne Forces, but subsequently it was used in the special units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a sniper weapon for urban conditions.
