Blowback Maniac Airsoft VFC MDX SBR GBBR In-Depth Review

Blowback Maniac Airsoft unboxes and does a comprehensive look at the VFC Maxim Defense MDX SBR gas blowback rifle that arrives in a box that looks like it lost a fight with a delivery truck, but the replica inside remains intact. Whilst battling a cold and armed with tissues and coffee, he walks us through the unboxing of this licensed airsoft gun. It features a CNC-finished upper and lower receiver, a tan and black color scheme, and a new 30-round polymer magazine. While the aesthetics are pleasing, he immediately notes that the rifle is covered in enough grease to fry a small meal, requiring a bit of a cleanup before the real testing begins.

Performance-wise, the rifle clocks in at around one joule, which is suitable for close-quarters play but won't be winning any long-distance sniper competitions. The recoil is snappy despite its compact size, and the new hop-up system allows for barrel removal without taking apart the entire handguard—a rare win for convenience. However, the experience hits a snag with the charging handle, which seems to operate on hope and gravity rather than functional engineering. Blowback Maniac Airsoft  finds that the latch doesn't actually connect to the lever, making the simple act of cocking the gun a surprisingly dramatic ordeal.

Internally, the rifle boasts a mix of steel and zinc parts. The trigger group is steel, but the bolt is not, which might disappoint those who enjoy heavy-duty durability. He also performs some DIY gun surgery to quiet a rattling buffer spring using a generous amount of silicone grease, jokingly hoping the video doesn't get flagged for the way he applies it. Despite the quirky charging handle and the lack of a steel bolt, his take is positive; it's a solid, attractive choice for CQB enthusiasts who don't mind a little bit of tinkering to get things running smoothly.
