Santa were to ask me what I would want for Christmas, then the gears of UR-Tactical are part of my list. But then, I am already an adult which means that the of concept Santa (as promoted by Coke) is fiction to me—no Santa, then no one to ask for a gift from like a little boy (which I think I still am). Luckily, UR-Tactical acted like Santa, and sent me items for review.

As far as I am concerned, all those feedback that I gathered for my mates who have purchased their products were into the high positives, and experiencing first hand these items surely did confirm what they told me. You can always check www.ur-tactical.com for those great gears they have for sale.

Which leaves me wondering who these guys are. I have gotten in touch with Roy of URTactical last month to request for an interview to know more about them. And here is the transcript of my interview with them.

Popular Airsoft: Hi Roy, can you please tell us more about UR-Tactical. How did it get into the business? And how long has it been operating?

Roy of UR-Tactical: We stared our business in fall 2005. Before, we found that the multicam pattern is excellent for many different environments, so we started to make some multicam gears for our team. Afterwards, we try to share our ideas with others.

Then we started the business at eBay.

Could you tell us a little more about the people behind the company? Are they into airsoft also?

Our main office is in Hong Kong. We are military gear collectors and also have good connections with the US military for 10 to 15 years. For the administration and management of our company, we divided it into two teams—one for product design and merchandise, and the other for sales and customer services. There are two production lines in OPS’s factory—clothing and gears.  Some of our partners have over 20 years of experience in the garment industry. So, we can ensure the high quality of our products.

You’re also known as OPS Tactical and as Multicamguy at eBay? Are there differences between these names or all of these are connected to URTactical?

At the beginning, we started our business as ‘Multicamguy’ at eBay. Later, we have our shop ‘URTACTICAL’. We are the same. We will try to keep selling at eBay because we have high reputation and many supporters at eBay.

Your products are getting popular among airsoft players. Is the airsoft market your main market or you also offer to law enforcement and military markets?

We sold lots of our gears to police forces, militaries and security companies. Recently, many airsoft Websites and forums are introducing our products; these may be the reason for our gears getting popular among the airsoft players. I think both markets—airsoft and real world security—are equal with each other now.

Are multicam gears your best sellers? How do you find those copying your designs and producing cheaper, but replica multicam gear?

The multicam gears are the most popular items in our shop. Basically, the designs of the gears for many brands are very similar. I have no comment on those replica products. I just think that the product being copied means it has great market value. Many suppliers contact us, offering their replica multicam materials. They are all rejected. The aim of our company is providing high quality products at a reasonable price. The customer will choose their needs between price and quality.

The designs that you have, have you staked intellectual property on these?

For every new product developed, all the conceptual design will be produced as a prototype. It will be modified
through brainstorming by our team members, as well as field tested before being put into the production line. The details and functional features are developing in that stage. It normally takes two to three months for the product development.

How do you find the airsoft market nowadays? With the economic crisis, are you experiencing any downturn in business?

We are also suffering from the economic crisis, as there is about 10 to 20 percent decrease in our business. I think the airsoft market is expanding nowadays, the effect of the economic crisis to the airsoft market is less compared with others. There are more and more people joining airsoft and buying our products.

UR-Tactical is also open to those interested at retailing products? How can they get in touch with you?

We are always open to retailers. Many retailers contact us to retail our products. We offer then a special price package. If anyone is interested in selling our products, they can contact us through our Website. We will send an offer to them.

What upcoming products that you have in the pipeline that airsoft players would be interested in?

We have been developing a new multicam jacket with two layers, the outer shell made with 500D cordura and the inner is a detachable polar fleece insert. It is suitable for all outdoor environments in winter.

What would you recommend for airsoft players to get from you this Christmas?

We are setting up several packages for Christmas—assault vests, various apparels and pouches. All of these packages will be offered with a special discount.
