You think you have seen enough bullpups? Think again

Gungho Cowboy

Bullpups in the real steel industry have a great benefit: providing a smaller profile to the shooter while still having the same barrel lengths and ranges like the non-bullpup assault rifles. They also provide a stable shooting position as they are centre-balanced. However, for many users in airsoft, playing with bullpup assault rifles is a love and hate affair. We do hate winding magazines of bullpup airsoft guns while in the middle of a skirmish, as the most comfortable way is to have the rifle raised, pointing upwards for one hand to reach the winding gear at the bottom of the magazine. This means that your rifle is pointed away from a target or area of responsbility, a big no-no when you're in the heat of a skirmish.

Setting aside this issue, there are a great number of bullpup users in airsoft, especially those who love they're Steyr Augs. The auto-snipers love these airsoft Steyrs, and put a great deal of enhancements to these. There also those who love their FN2000s, SA80s/L85s, Tavors, and they're willing to live with the winding problem.

There are many bullpup configurations out there in the real steel world, unfortunately for us airsoft users, rarely are bullpups produced, and we are limited to the famous ones. A company, called Center Balanced Systems (CBRPS) make stock conversion kits for existing weapons and these can be converted into several models, according to the preference of the user. The conversion kits turn your existing rifles into bullpups, which for them is a Center Balance Rifle Platform System.

One example is the photo below. Can you guess what is the base rifle of this?

That rifle is a Mosin Nagant 7.62x5R. CBRPS created an aluminium chassis for the it, and also provision for a bipod attachment. CBPRPS also have conversions for the SKS Yugo and the SKS Norinco and called them the Spike Series, they also have other configurations for both of these rifles:

CBRPS are not doing this just for the sake of designing bullpup weapons. Their understanding is that there are already existing rifles, albeit older, like the example of the Mosin Nagant, but are perfectly functioning weapons. They bring them up to date and at prices that sport shooters on a budget would appreciate very much.

Another thing with their system iis the trigger mechanism which put the load at the tip of the finger. Experienced shooters always use the tip of the fingers when pulling the trigger, rather than having the whole finger hug the trigger, which couid lead to missed shots. There are other innovations that they have done, which you can check by visiting their website. Their bullpup configurations is not only about conversion as these come along with other parts that make up the patented CBRPS.

Now, if only more airsoft manufacturers also try to play around, building some cool projects that would allow players to reconfigure old AEGs and gas blowbacks into something that will look new and distinct. In an airsoft world that is so full of M4s, AKs, HKs, FNs, wouldn't it be cool to bring something different to the game without breaking the bank?
