G&G CEO's Sentence Gets Overturned

We get the latest update on the legal battle of G&G Armament's CEO, James Liao (Liao Ying-hsi). News from Taiwan report that his sentence got overturned and that he is not guilty of violating the Controlling Guns, Ammunitions and Knives Act of Taiwan. Last year he was sentenced to two years and eight months in jail which he appealed to have it overruled by the Higher Court.

Mr. Liao has been accused of violating the Act as it is Criminal Investigation Bureau said that the G&G G960 airsoft sniper rifle if used with be ball bearings and used with a 22kg canister of gas, it will have a muzzle velocity of 24 to 32 joules of kinetic energy going over the 20 joules threshold. Mr. Liao's defense is that the G960 meets the regulations of toy guns as mandated by the Ministy of Economic Affairs and that G&G recommends that the G960 be used with 12kg gas canisters.

According to a report by the China Times, the high court believes that the toy air gun made by Mr. Liao is an entertainment and leisure product and it is in line with the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The inspection bureau regulated and sold all the products to foreign countries according to orders from foreign customers. He did not commit the crime intentionally, and thus, he was acquitted.
